PREORDER Final Gravity, A Beer Zine Issue 09
Issue 09 of Final Gravity, a print beer magazine that shares immersive and personal stories from the world of beer, is now available for preorder with free shipping. More photos of this issue will be added to this listing soon.
Rather than a typical glossy beer mag, Final Gravity is an old school stapled zine, but with paid writing and art. It tells the stories that don’t often make it into the pages of beer magazines, the stories that together weave the fabric of the collective beer experience.
In this issue, 2024 British Guild of Beer Writers Michael Jackson Beer Writer of the Year Ruvani De Silva wrestles with the difficulty of writing about beer and leisure even as civil rights and public services are systematically dismantled around us.
Kanaka Maoli journalist Megan Ulu-Lani Boyanton takes the brewing industry to task for appropriating Pacific Islander culture.
Joy Alicia Raines takes us on a beautiful visual journey back to a beer that meant a lot to her, and the bittersweet memories tasting it years later and states away evokes for her.
Here’s the complete list of stories in this issue:
Writing at the End of the World by Ruvani De Silva
My First Pumpkin Beer: A Visual Recollection by Joy Alicia Raines
Behind the Iron Keg: Bulgarian Beer by Sandro Wirth
Drinking with My Parents by Melinda Guerra
Scene: A Shot and a Beer by Ash Croce
Rain and Rest in Germany by Stasia Brewczynski
Toronto’s Trinity-Bellwoods Neighborhood by Christopher A. Smith
Champagne Velvet, PBR, and Folk Singer Si Kahn by David Nilsen
Keep Your Tiki Out of My Beer by Megan Ulu-Lani Boyanton
Artist Showcase: Hannah Tebbe
Pet Spotlight: Jellybean
For each issue of Final Gravity, we select a non-profit working in or around the beer and hospitality industries to support financially. This issue’s beneficiary is the Many Faces Initiative. The Many Faces Initiative was founded with the purpose of fostering diversity and inclusivity within the craft brewing industry. It funds 10-week brewery internships for persons of color looking to get into the craft beer industry.
We believe passionately in the Final Gravity project, in the importance of independent print media, and in the DIY tradition of zine publishing. We hope you’ll enjoy this issue of Final Gravity.
This zine is 8.5” x 5.5”, 56 full-color pages, and staple-bound. Despite being a grassroots, DIY zine, it features paid writing and artwork.
