PREORDER Final Gravity, A Beer Zine Issue 12

$11.00

Issue 12 of Final Gravity, a print beer zine that shares personal, human-centered stories from the world of beer, is now available for preorder with free domestic shipping!

More photos will be added to this listing as we approach the publication date of May 11.

Rather than a typical glossy beer mag, Final Gravity is an old school stapled zine, but with paid writing and art. It tells the stories that don’t often make it into the pages of beer magazines, the stories that together weave the fabric of the collective beer experience.

In this issue, Brett Cortelletti tells the story of Taybeh Beer, a craft brewery in Palestine (the first in the Middle East) that has weathered numerous hardships since launching in 1994. Brett introduces us to the family who runs this brewery and how they’ve navigated incredible challenges to make great beer.

Miranda Moure shares the South African cultural connotations of Carling Black Label, a Canadian lager that connected with Black South Africans yearning for equality in the 1990s and became a symbol of revolution (despite the moral ambiguities of its parent company).

Ruvani De Silva shares the deeply personal story of moving into a caregiving role for her aging father, the bond of sharing drinks in his final years, and how those bonds stretch into memory in the wake of his passing in 2025.

Here’s the complete list of stories in this issue:

  1. Fermentation Under Occupation: Palestine’s Taybeh Brewery by Brett Cortelletti

  2. Hatchets and Hooch: Women Who Fought For and Against Prohibition by Frances Tietje-Wang

  3. Carling Black Label’s Cultural Connotations by Miranda Moure

  4. Caregiving and the Bonds of Memory by Ruvani De Silva

  5. The Rossel Sisters Are Sewing Sustainability by Jorge Torres

  6. Istanbul’s Beer Revolution Has A Teacher: İdil Tan by Sandro Wirth

  7. Honest Friend Brewing Crafts a Different Kind of Taproom by David Nilsen

  8. The Humble Home: A Eulogy For Breweries Lost by Melinda Guerra

  9. Artist Showcase: Sandra Staub

  10. Pet Spotlight: Munjo

For each issue of Final Gravity, we select a non-profit working in or around the beer and hospitality industries to support financially. This issue’s beneficiary is the San Diego Brewcycling Collaborative. The Collaborative empowers breweries to be more sustainable and helps divert brewing waste from landfills.

We believe passionately in the Final Gravity project, in the importance of independent print media, and in the DIY tradition of zine publishing. We hope you’ll enjoy this issue of Final Gravity.

This zine is 8.5” x 5.5”, 56 full-color pages, and staple-bound. Despite being a grassroots, DIY zine, it features paid writing and artwork.
